Helmet Cam

Dear Genets,

I was requested some time ago to give you some advice regarding helmet cams, as some of you know, I have a VIO POV 1.0 which I have to say, works really well. We know other people wearing other cams, but as this technology quickly evolves, I wanted to share with you what I really think are right now the best two options in the market

1. VIO POV 1.5

This is an update of the one I already have, so they upgraded even if it's not a really new cam. One of the main improvements is that cames with a shorter cam, and new mounting devices, also some improvements regarding the output sizes options and the record cards.

My experience with this cam have been great, nice footage, and the possibility to review what you are doing on the same moment due to the small screen. The bad side, is that you need to wear this unit on the backpack, while with other cameras you only need the cam itself.

2. GoPro HD Hero

New version of one of the helmet cam best sellers, this release is comming with a new HD version, so it's the first High Definition helmet cam on the market. This one is still keeping one of the best options, the 170 degree wide angle, which gave to the footage a especial effect, but helps a lot to capture all that happen around the cam.

For me, the only contra on this cam, it's the size, so too big to carry on top of the helmet if you are a "trail" rider.

Both options are good ones, and the final decission it's more a kind of personal approach, but I'm sure the final price will help, and on this case the GoPro it's unbeatable

VIO POV 1.5: $ 529.95
GoPro HD Hero: $ 299.00

  1. Xavi I have watched many movies from the go pro HD and I hear very good reports. Did you know you can get a chest harness for the go pro? It means wearing it around your chest rather than on the helmet. Not sure if that's any help for you but look forward to seing some of the American trails.

  2. Hi Michael, I know the chest harness is a good device, the main applications are always on downhill, as the position of the rider is better for the cam. I never had this for the VIO POV, as the cam has a different set that mades this more difficult.

  3. Però al final haurem de decidir la que entenem és una bona opció.

Per a mi és important que tingui polsador a distància.

No veig si no, com pots fer la foto del mes, és a dir activar i desactivar la càmera de vídeo cada vegada.

  4. OK, so some comments regarding this last aspect

    1. The VIO POV 1.5 has a remot control, so allow you to start/stop on a easy way, but this one has no option to shot a single picture.

    2. The GoPro has no remote control (unless that I´m aware) but has a mode to shoot pictures

For me the helmet cam is really not a device to shot while riding, is a cam corder,so what I expect is to be able to do some nice footage.

Right now, both have good and bad sides, but for me, the GoPro is too big to wear on the helmet, so is not an option I will consider.

    Lets talk about
