"Tucson, Ariz. – Jan. 9, 2012 – Two very fast AND very lucky participants in the single speed category at the Whiskey Off-Road will win a free trip to the 2012 Single Speed World Championships (SSWC) located in Spioenkop/Winterton Kwa-Zulu Natal province, South Africa.
During 2011 Epic Rides, in partnership with the Single Speed World Championships, sent the male and female winners of the single speed category to the Single Speed World Championships in Ireland. For 2012, “staying true to the single speed roots, we’re going to mix it up a bit,” said Todd Sadow, president of Epic Rides. Enriching the single speed category, and requesting deeper crowd participation, each top ten male and female single speed finisher will be entered into a raffle that will take place following the Pro cross country awards ceremony on Sunday, April 29. All they have to do is finish in the top 10 to be entered.
The raffle will consist of balls marked 1-10 representing 1st – 10th place finishers in Saturdays single speed event. Two individual draws from the raffle ball roller will determine the male and female single speeder who win the free round trip plane tickets to 2012 SSWC. This award, along with the $30,000 cash purse for pro riders – with male and female riders receiving equal payout – is one reason the Whiskey Off-Road appeals to top level endurance mountain bikers.
“One of the best parts of mountain biking is experiencing the sheer beauty of the world’s finest outdoor destinations,” Sadow noted. “For this reason, Epic Rides has enjoyed creating a tradition of sending two of America’s best single speeders for a unique opportunity to experience mountain biking in other parts of the world.“
The 2012 Whiskey Off-Road endurance mountain bike event, located in Prescott, AZ, will take place Friday, April 27 through Sunday, April 29. The challenging course, festival atmosphere and superb organization of “the Whiskey” attract a large number of riders, supporters and spectators.
Amateur registration opened Jan. 1 and is limited to the first 1,750 registrants. With three days of event related bike racing, fun rides, a well attended industry expo and live music based in the “Event Hub” of Prescott’s commerce district, Epic Rides expects the amateur category to sell out.
Online and snail-mail registration forms can be found at http://epicrides.com/wor/wor.htm
Amateur athletes and kids will enjoy their choice of graduated distance options including a 15 Proof, 25 Proof, 50 Proof or 2 Proof kids course (1 proof = 1 mile). All events will start and finish in the center of downtown Prescott on Whiskey Row.
All participants who toe the start line during the three days of riding in the Prescott National Forest will have the opportunity to earn a custom finisher pint glass just for completing the distance they registered to ride within the allotted time – not an easy task. Those who complete their course fast enough to finish in the top five will receive a custom Whiskey Off-Road flask. For the junior categories, podium finishers will receive custom Whiskey Off-Road stainless steel water bottles. All categories will receive product from industry sponsors in addition to the customized awards.
All participants who register for the Whiskey Off-Road on or before March 25 will receive an event goodie bag valued at a minimum of $75, including T-shirt, water bottle, poster and event publication plus assorted samples from event sponsors. The registration fee is $95 plus a $10 minimum donation to be shared between the Yavapai County Food Bank and Prevent Child Abuse Arizona."
